**The Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant disaster in 2011 posed a major challenge to nuclear safety. To address this, the French Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) introduced "post-Fukushima" countermeasures.**

A reactor core meltdown and core drilling is the worst possible case in a nuclear power plant. It is necessary to be well prepared in case of occurrence in order to deploy solutions that help limit radiochemical expansion. Veolia brings its expertise in effluent treatment to develop new tools in order to prevent any radiochemical transfer from contaminated water to groundwater.

The main aim is to offer strong and solid solutions, with a quick set up and which ease coordination between several entities.

The challenge, is to develop a system that can reduce primary fluid contamination in case of a severe accident, minimising the consequence of potential underground leakage and removing radionuclides from the water in the reactor building
