Veolia Nuclear Solutions participated at the NDA Estate Supply Chain Event

On November 1st, Veolia Nuclear Solutions participated at the annual NDA Estate Supply Chain Event held at Event City, Manchester, and organised by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) for the industry.

The annual NDA Supply Chain Event and Awards Ceremony was launched in 2012.  The events are jointly sponsored by the NDA and its Site License Companies, to celebrate and acknowledge the supply chain’s vital role in delivering progress in decommissioning across the UK estate.

The NDA Estate Supply Chain Event attracted around 2000 individuals, with over 300 companies exhibiting from the UK and wider International supply chain, making it the largest supply chain event in Europe. This unique event focuses on opportunities for the supply chain to work in UK nuclear decommissioning. With a particular focus on SMEs, the aim is also to attract new businesses to the nuclear decommissioning sector.

Last year, Veolia Nuclear Solutions won the prestigious 2017 Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) Export Award for creating and designing the remote handling solution for the investigation work as part of the fuel debris retrieval at Fukushima Daiichi, Unit 2. Awarded for the best export of an application used in the NDA estate, the access robotic device and tools are based on the proven approach in decommissioning projects at Sellafield and Dounreay.

The innovation zone, the perfect place to enhance our capabilities

The innovation zone is a dedicated space for companies who have innovative technical products to display. Veolia Nuclear Solutions exhibited in the innovation zone, where our team highlighted the in-pond manipulator, a remote handling solution for the First Generation Magnox Storage Pond (FGMSP) at Sellafield. Our team is providing field-tested remote handling equipment to Sellafield’s FGMSP. More precisely, the equipment will be tasked with finding, sorting and removing difficult grades radioactive waste in challenging underwater conditions. FGMSP has been called the most hazardous industrial building in Western Europe. The In-Pond Manipulator solution developed by Veolia Nuclear Solutions incorporated robust and innovative design to enable the quickest and simplest installation possible whilst ensuring reliable operation in the harsh environment of FGMSP for the next 15 years.

The event of the year for Veolia Nuclear Solutions in the United-Kingdom

Veolia Nuclear Solutions’ promoted its capabilities by exhibiting a 3D model and videos at our booth. By presenting Veolia Nuclear Solutions technological solutions, our team demonstrated that remote access is an effective means to access legacy waste without putting the human operator at risk.  In fact, many visitors were interested in the presence of Veolia at the event, stopping at Veolia Nuclear Solutions’ stand to learn more about Veolia’s activity in facility clean-up and treatment of hazardous and radioactive waste.

It was a great opportunity for our experts to showcase that Veolia Nuclear Solutions is working with the NDA at Dounreay and Sellafield as many from the UK decommissioning industry attended. As the event offered the opportunity of bringing together the industry, many people requested a business meeting with Veolia Nuclear Solutions’ team in order to learn more about Veolia’s technologies and solutions. Through  videos and the 3D mock-up, the public had the opportunity to better understand the technologies used on sites. Many questions have been asked about what Veolia Nuclear Solutions does at Sellafield and Dounreay but also abroad.

Without a doubt, the NDA event drew plenty of attention and enabled Veolia Nuclear Solutions to bolster its reputation and presence within the industry in the United Kingdom.
