Veolia Nuclear Solutions: a new world-class player in nuclear facility clean-up and treatment of low-and intermediate-level radioactive waste

Veolia today announced it is unifying its activities in the nuclear cleanup field under a new entity called NUCLEAR SOLUTIONS, that underscores Veolia’s standalone ability to confront the unique environmental challenges faced by this and future generations.

The Nuclear Solutions entity, which unites the best-in-class operations of Veolia’s Kurion, Alaron, and Asteralis businesses, represents an integrated offering that includes the most comprehensive range of technologies, expertise and services dealing with facility restoration, decommissioning and the treatment of low-and intermediate-level radioactive waste. Nurtured by nuclear experts and backed by thousands of Veolia staff worldwide, Veolia Nuclear Solutions’ Value Chain is comprised of initial investigation and characterization, the use of advanced robotics, the separation and stabilization of nuclear waste, all provided through a global management and operations capability.

Veolia’s Nuclear Solutions entity provides unique value to its customers, with a broad array of capabilities and offerings across the nuclear and environmental sectors, effective technologies for hazardous waste and pollution treatment, experience in complex operations, and risk mitigation and management. The Nuclear Solutions entity delivers high quality expertise and services to its clients and remains committed to performance and safety.

Veolia’s Nuclear Solutions has operations in the United States, France, the United Kingdom, in Japan, and in Canada. It is the only international operator to be working at Fukushima on behalf of Tepco, the Japanese nuclear utility, and its expertise and intervention helped stabilize the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant after the 2011 tsunami. In France, the entity has a collaborative agreement and works with the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA).

This new nuclear cleanup dedicated activity is leaded by William Gallo, CEO, and is part of Veolia’s Global Enterprises organization, the $5B technological- and solutions-oriented arm of Veolia.

“By developing and unifying our activities in the nuclear restoration market under a single name NUCLEAR SOLUTIONS, we are solidifying our position as the pioneer in addressing extremely difficult environmental challenges around the world,” said Claude Laruelle, director of Global Enterprises at Veolia.

The new unified entity will support Veolia’s broader mission “Resourcing the World” by helping preserve resources through addressing pollution in its most complex form, decommissioning nuclear facilities, and containing health hazards and unwanted environmental impact. As the world leader in optimized resource management, Veolia is committed to developing, preserving, and replenishing the world’s resources.
